As we approach Easter, I approach Jelly Beans. Being hella Jew-y, the holiday has absolutely zero meaning for me, aside from candy. But that’s good, right? At least we can all bond in SOME way around the holiday.

We’ve already established that most jelly beans suck. Boring. Some are truly bad (See Hawaiian Punch Jelly Beans), some are great (Jelly Bellies in general), and the rest fall in the middle. Let’s go middling.

Starburst Sour Jelly Beans are actually some of the better beans I’ve had. Their flavors are good-very authentic fruit tasting, and while not super sour, they’re definitely tart. Think of it this way: the holy grail of sour Jelly Beans are clearly Jelly Belly Sours. Those are seriously sour. These come in a nice second sour place, but they’re not even close to Jelly Bellies. Honestly though, I like them for what they are- good flavor and nice tartness. I love tarts.

The flavors: cherry, green apple, lemon, tangerine, and watermelon. Nothing really groundbreaking, save for the tangerine which ROCKS. Why isn’t there more tangerine flavored candy? What about limes? I’m not happy about this.

Starburst Sour jelly Beans would be perfect in a dish in my office at work, except for the issue of me eating them all immediately. I have to ration candy for myself usually, or I go nuts and then go into a guilt spiral afterwards. But…I’ve said too much.

Look-all I’m sayin’ is that, as far as Jelly Beans go, these are damn good. In fact, I challenge you to find a better bag that’s not made by Jelly Belly. Seriously, I’m all ears, and I’d love to try them. In the meantime though, when you’re carving that pumpkin or lighting that tree or saying that prayer or dunking someone in water this Sunday, make sure to have some ‘beans handy. And if you like sour, these aren’t the BEST, but they’re pretty close. Feel free to tart it up.

Bottom Line : They’re good. I like.

Would I Buy These Again? : Yes.

Jelly beans are a type of confectionery that comes in many different flavors. They are small (the size of a red kidney bean or smaller) and generally have a hard candy shell and gummy interior. The confection is primarily made of sugar. Starburst is the brand name of a cuboid-shaped, fruit-flavoured soft taffy candy manufactured by The Wrigley Company, a subsidiary of Mars, Incorporated. Starburst also exist as jellybeans, lollipops, gummies, hard candy, candy canes, and lip gloss (the latter in a partnership with Lip Smackers (Chapstick)).
