Meet the Tootsie Sour Fruit Chews. Or is it Tootsie Fruit Chews Sour? Depends how you read, I guess. Going from top to bottom, it’s the latter. #jussaying
Anyway, I read two reviews of this new offering from the Tootsie Pop Guild: One slammed them, one loved them.
My own investigation started with a trip to the Dollar Store. (Believe it or not, these are kind of hard to find. Even Tootsie’s own site doesn’t list them in their sour section) But there they were in person, in five flavors.
My honest expectation was that they would be fruit chews. No sour at all, as that’s what the negative review was upset about.
However, I gotta say…I was wrong. These are actually good, and while I wouldn’t say they’re super sour, they’re definitely tart, which is enough. They’re sort of like any other sour fruit chew, but for a dollar? A legit bargain!
The flavors: watermelon, lemon, orange, blue raspberry and cherry. And the weirdest part for all of you who’ve been with me a while and know I’m not a huge cherry candy fan is: I loved the cherry ones. I don’t know what’s happening to me.
There’s not a lot more to say about these. There’s no sour coating, it’s a “built-in” sour, and the chew I’d say is medium. If these were $3 a bag I’d likely still buy them occasionally. But at a sweet buck? They’re on the rotation, baby!
For now, if you are looking in person, these seem to be a Dollar Tree/bargain store exclusive. Still, for us all-digi folks, get them at AllCityCandy.
I don’t see it from a brief look at the page but did you get to try the Tootsie Roll Eggs for Easter? They. Are. Yummy.
